Installing your eSIM

One activation code, shown three interchangeable ways. Pick whichever is easiest with the devices in your hand.

any eSIM phone

Scan the QR code

Open your order page on a laptop or a second phone, then scan it with the phone that will use the eSIM. A phone cannot scan a code shown on its own screen, which is why the two options below exist.

iPhone, iOS 17.4+

Tap the install link

Open your order page on the iPhone itself and tap "Install on this iPhone". iOS hands the code straight to the eSIM installer — no scanning, no typing. Older iPhones will not react to this link; use the manual details instead.

always works

Type it in manually

Every phone lets you enter the eSIM details by hand. Your order page shows exactly the values your phone asks for — copy them across with the copy buttons and nothing can be mistyped.

An eSIM can only be installed once. If you delete it from your phone, the code can't be reused — so don't remove the plan until you're finished travelling.

What the code is made of

An activation code isn't a password — it's an address plus a one-time ticket. Every field is on your order page with a copy button next to it.

SM-DP+ Address
rsp.example-carrier.com

The server your phone downloads the eSIM profile from. Looks like a web address, without "https://".

Activation Code
K2-1LS-1P0RRRQ

The one-time code that identifies your specific plan. Some phones call this the "matching ID".

Full activation string
LPA:1$rsp.example-carrier.com$K2-1LS-1P0RRRQ

The two fields above joined together — this is literally what the QR code contains. Many Android phones accept this single line.

ICCID
8910300000123456789

Your eSIM's serial number. You never type this during setup, but quote it if you contact support.

Entering the code by hand

On Samsung the path is Settings → Connections → SIM manager → Add eSIM. On Pixel it's Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Download a SIM instead.

~/setup $ iphone
  1. 1Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Service) → Add eSIM
  2. 2Tap Use QR Code, then Enter Details Manually
  3. 3Paste the SM-DP+ Address into the first field
  4. 4Paste the Activation Code into the second field
  5. 5Leave "Confirmation Code" blank and tap Next
  6. 6Label the plan, then choose which line is your default for data
~/setup $ android
  1. 1Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → Add eSIM
  2. 2Tap Need help? or Enter it manually when the scanner opens
  3. 3Paste the full activation string (the LPA: line)
  4. 4If asked for two separate fields, use the SM-DP+ address and activation code
  5. 5Confirm the download and wait for the profile to install
  6. 6Turn on the new line and enable Data Roaming for it

Install over WiFi before you leave — the profile download needs a connection, and your plan's validity only starts once the eSIM first connects at your destination.

Three habits that help

3 rows · 3ms · cache hit
tip 01

Install before you fly

Set up your eSIM while you still have WiFi at home. You'll be ready to connect the moment you land.

tip 02

Keep both SIMs active

Use your regular SIM for calls and texts. Set the eSIM as your data line for internet abroad.

tip 03

Enable data roaming

Don't forget to turn on data roaming for your eSIM line. This is required for it to work abroad.
